The First United Nations Conference on Space Law and Policy was successfully held in Moscow, Russian Federation during 11-13 September, 2018. APSCO delegation comprising, Ms. Su Kun from Department of External Relations and Legal Affairs and Ms. Ouyang Huizi from Department of Education and Training and Database Management participated in the Conference.
At the conference, APSCO delegation actively took part in all sessions and panel discussions. The themes were: 1) Promoting responsible, peaceful and safe use of outer space; 2) Legal aspects of space debris mitigation and remediation; 3) Space resources exploration, exploitation and utilization; 4) Space traffic management as a part of global governance; 5) Strengthening Capacity-building in Space Law and Policy.
On Sep. 11, APSCO delegation availed an opportunity to have a tripartite coordination meeting with: Mr. Niklas Hedman, Chief of UNOOSA, Ms. Yukiko Okumura, Associate Expert from UNOOSA, and Mrs. Gulmelahat Dogan, the representative from TUBITAK UZAY on co-organizing UN-APSCO Space Law and Policy Workshop, in Turkey, in 2019.
The three parties reached a consensus on co-organizing the 2019 Workshop, hosted by TURKEY TUBITAK UZAY. The detailed preparation work of Workshop would continue among UNOOSA, TUBITAK UZAY and APSCO, after the meeting. APSCO delegates valued and appreciated UNOOSA and TUBITAK UZAY’s great support and cooperation for this 2019 Workshop.
During this conference, APSCO delegation also greeted and met with international experts and professionals in space law and policy field to extend warm invitation for next year’s Workshop. They all expressed their appreciation and great interest for the UN-APSCO Space Law and Policy Workshop in 2019 in Turkey.
