The 12th Meeting of the Council of the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) was held, in Beijing, China from 11-13 November 2018. The Council Members and representatives from Member States Bangladesh, China, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, Peru, Thailand, Turkey and Observer State Mexico attended the Meeting.
As per procedure, a preparatory Meeting was organized on 11 November.
Mr. Chinbat Baatarjav, Chairman of APSCO Council hosted the Meeting and welcomed the distinguished Council Members and delegates from the Member States of APSCO. He opened the Meeting with his formal statement and invited all the distinguished Council Members to give their statement on behalf of the Member States.
Dr. Li Xinjun, the Secretary-General of APSCO, highlighted various initiatives and major achievements since the last Council Meeting and engagements with international space community. The respective Director-Generals presented detail reports of APSCO cooperative activities to the Council for reviewing and approval.
The 12th Meeting of APSCO Council deliberated on the Agenda of the Meeting, and approved Feasibility Studies on 4 projects: Forest Carbon Stock Assessment Using Geospatial Technologies; APOSOS Project Phase-II; DSSP Project Phase-II; and Earthquake Signatures Project Phase-II. These Projects would serve the needs of the member States for a long time. The Council also approved cooperation Agreements on Degree Education with three top space-related Universities: NPU, HIT, and BUAA, and MoU with NPU on establishment of APSCO-NPU Talents Training Base. The Council approved another tripartite Agreement between CNSA-APSCO-CMA, on Application of FY Meteorological Satellite Data. This would help the member States to get accurate weather data for wide ranging requirements. Besides, the Council also approved two instruments of international cooperation: MoU with IAF as Partner Organization and Protocol with APOSCO’s sister Organization, ESA. These cooperation opportunities would open new vistas and opportunities for the member States, in the future. The Council approved Budget 2019 and the proposal of establishment of the new department of ‘Program Operation and Data Service’.
The Member States achieved the APSCO Development Vision-2030, which get approval from the Council and would be signed during 10th Anniversary High-Level Forum, on 14 November 2018 by all Council Members.
The Chairman APSCO Council appreciated the efforts of the Secretary-General and his team, for the successful Meeting and wished them success in the 10th Anniversary High-Level Forum and 9th International Symposium, on 14-16 November 2018.
