APSCO delegation attended the 58th session of Legal Subcommittee (LSC 2019) of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) during 1-5 April which was held in Vienna, Austria.
APSCO delegation actively participated in the meeting and made a statement to elaborately report the activities related to space law and policy especially the Master Program cooperated with Beihang University through which till now 13 students from the countries Bangladesh, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, Peru, Thailand and Turkey have been recruited with full scholarship supports and 5 of them were already graduated successfully to contribute continuously in this domain. Besides, delegation shared the experience of a series of Space Law Forums as the knowledge exchanging platform of APSCO which provide equal opportunities for both developing and developed country experts to discuss and promote the common understanding of space law and policy at regional and inter-regional level. Also, space law trainings held by APSCO with the support of well-known lecturers around the world endeavor for capacity building in the related area among Member States. Furthermore, the delegation reported the milestone event of APSCO which is the 10th Anniversary High-Level Forum held in November 2018 where congratulatory messages from APSCO Member States’ leaders and UNOOSA were honorably conveyed and the “APSCO Development Vision-2030” was endorsed which will guide APSCO toward the next development phase.
APSCO delegation also took the opportunity to have several meetings with TUBITAK Space Technologies Research Institute (TUBITAK UZAY) delegation and UNOOSA on the detailed preparation work of the Conference on Space Law and Policy, which will be co-organized by APSCO, UNOOSA and one of APSCO Member States, Turkey in Istanbul on 23-26 September 2019 and APSCO sincerely invited experts and scholars all around the world to the conference to enrich the capacity building efforts on Space Law and Policy.
