APSCO delegationled by Dr. ManopAorpimai, Director-General of Strategic Planning and Program Management Department, attendedthe 23rd Session of the Intergovernmental Consultative Committee (ICC) on the Regional Space Applications Programme for Sustainable Development (RESAP) held in UNCC, UNESCAP, Bangkok, Thailand during 27-29 August 2019, as a part of ESCAP’s Disaster Resilience Week.
During the session, members of ICC had in-depth discussion on implementation of the Asia-Pacific Plan of Action on Space Applications for Sustainable Development (2018-2030), which was endorsed by ESCAP member States at the 75th session of the Commission on 31 May 2019, through a resolution entitled “Implementation of the Ministerial Declaration on Space Applications for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific and the Asia-Pacific Plan of Action on Space Applications for Sustainable Development (2018–2030)” (Res.75/6). In addition, ICC members reviewed and identified the priority in needs and contributions for three Action Areas of the Plan of Action based on the six thematic areas of the Plan of Action. The meeting also discussed the progress and achievements of RESAP members in supporting the implementation of the Plan of Action and discussed emerging challenges and regional priorities for successfully implementing the 2030 development agenda.APSCO presented relevant activities in supporting its members which most of them are members of the ICC on implementing the Plan of Action.
The ICC-23 also held a joint session with the Sixth Session of Committee of Disaster Risk Reduction (CDRR-6) on regional cooperation for promoting space applications and geospatial information for disaster resilience and sustainable development, in which APSCO delegates actively participated in the session and discussed cooperative activities and shared experiences on the issues with its members and other participants.
