The Field Trip and Training for FY-2 Meteorological Satellite Medium Scale Data Utilization Station which jointly organized by APSCO Secretariat and China Meteorological Administration (CMA) was successfully conducted during 17-19 September 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Director General of Program Operation and Data Service, Mr. Xu Yansong introduced the basic information and ongoing projects of APSCO, Thailand Meteorological Department (TMD) showed great interests in cooperation with APSCO in the field meteorological and remote sensing data applications. The Director General of TMD, Dr. Phuwieng Parkhammintara welcomed the team and shared his recent experience in the disaster area to point out that as rough terrain covers Thailand, meteorological satellites data plays an irreplaceable role in weather forecast as well as disaster management. He thanked APSCO and CMA for its effort to help TMD to improve the level of weather forecast. All seven directors from different department and experts of TMD fully participated the whole activity.
Experts from CMA introduced the FY series satellites and its applications, a short training on FY-2 system and preparatory work was carried out during the event. Experts team overcame the insufficiency of personnel, measured three possible locations for the ground station under the scorching sun and pouring rain. CMA experts also helped TMD to update the software and fixed some problem of CMAcast system which was installed more than a decade ago. During this three-day’s activity, both sides have conducted full exchanges and communication, TMD also opened its weather forecast center and seismology center to the expert team for visiting.
As the first solid step after the signing of tripartite agreement with CNSA and CMA, APSCO Secretariat will work with all focal agents together, to benefit the people of Member States by improving weather forecasting capabilities and proving better weather services.
