The Site Selection Expedition of Radiometric Calibration of Satellite Sensors Project was organized in Lima, Peru, during 26-29 October, 2019. The experts group B consisting of Iran, Peru and Turkey participated in this activity.
Dr. Manop Aorpimai, Director-General of Strategic Planning and Program Management Department of APSCO delivered a welcome speech to all participants on behalf of APSCO Secretariat. He emphasized the importance of the project as a good example for sharing rare resources among Member States, and he encouraged more similar kind of project to be initiated for mutual benefit of APSCO Members.
During the presentation session, Mr. Gonzalo Guevara, the second head of terrestrial image segment (IGS) from CONIDA, made a presentation on behalf of Peruvian Space Agency. Ms. Husne Seda Deveci, the Project Manager from Project Leader, TUBITAK UZAY of Turkey, gave a presentation on overview of implementation of the project and further activities. Ms. Susan, project manager of Strategic Planning and Program Management Department of APSCO gave a brief background introduction of the project as well as the main objectives of this site selection expedition. Finally, Mr. Martin Talavera, research assistant from CONIDA, made a presentation on Site Selection Expedition Procedure in Ica desert.
On 28 October, all participants visited the Ica Zone for field campaign. Also, site characterization and validation activities for absolute radiometric calibration of optical sensors was successfully conducted at the Ica desert site.
Mr. Javier Martin Tuesta Marquez, the Institutional Head of CONIDA, greeted all participants at the meeting and wished the meeting a complete success. During the Data Processing Sessions, the Project Leader gave lectures and guidance on how to process data with both on-site measurement and image data from satellites. Furthermore, related topics were assigned to participating Member States for conclusion during the 2nd Workshop and final review meeting in December in Turkey. A technical visit to National Center for Satellite Image Operations (CNOIS) were attended by all participants after the sessions.
At the end of meeting, APSCO and participating Member States appreciated all contributions and hospitality from the host Peru- CONIDA, and hard work of the team from TUBITAK UZAY. All experts recognized that the Site Selection Expedition had been successfully conducted, and the main objectives have been well achieved.
