Invited by Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Dr. Li Xinjun, and delegation of APSCO attended the International Forum “Space Days in Kazakhstan: Baikonur is the Cradle of World Cosmonautics” held from November 12 to 13 in Nur-Sultan.
This forum is well established in the international space industry communities and has become a tradition to be held annually since 2003. Attended by representatives from more than 40 countries of the world, this forum can be served as a good platform for the presentation of its activities, meetings and development of cooperation on the effective application of technologies of space systems for remote sensing of the earth, satellite navigation, communications and telecommunications, production of space systems, and launch services.
During the forum, Dr. Li Xinjun participated in the plenary session on November 12 together with H.E. Mr. Askar MAMIN, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan;Mr. Askar Zhumagaliyev, Minister of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan, General Director of ROSCOSMOS and other representatives from Airbus and OneWeb. He delivered a speech focused on how APSCO benefits its Member States in this session to present APSCO keeps benefitting Member States through Capacity Building, Talents Cultivation, Data-sharing and Application, Network of Cooperative Projects, Building International Knowledge-exchanging Platform and so on.
In the afternoon, Dr. Li Xinjun also took this special opportunity for having a bilateral meeting with Mr. Marat R. Nurguzhin, the Vice Minister of Defense and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Progress on remote and meteorologic data sharing, cooperation with other international organizations this year and information about the APSCO symposium on earthquake in 2020 were briefly introduced by Dr. Li. Mr. Marat shared his opinion and interests on these activities and looked forward for more possible cooperation with APSCO and also expressed that the internal procedure on being full Member State of APSCO will be accelerated accordingly.
During the reception, Dr. Li had a nice talk and discussion with Romanian cosmonaut Mr. Dumitru Dorin Prunariu, now he is a vice-chair of the UN COPUOS Working Group on “Space Agenda 2030” and Mr. Talgat Musabayev, the first Kazakh astronaut who has 3 spaceflights (1994, 1998 and 2001) and experience in space with 341 days.
