The First FengYun Satellite International User Conference sponsored by China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and China National Space Administration (CNSA) was held at Hainan University in Haikou, Hainan Province on 15-17 November 2019. Representatives and experts from over 30 countries, World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) gathered together and exchanged in-depth discussions over promoting global integrated application of FengYun (FY) Satellites and better serving users along Belt and Road countries. FengYun means " winds and clouds " in Chinese.
Ms. Liu Yaming, Administrator of CMA; Dr. Yu Xinwen, Deputy Administrator of CMA; Dr. Wu Yanhua, Deputy Administrator of CNSA; Mr.Liu Pingzhi, Vice Governor of Hainan Province; Dr. Zhang Wenjian, Assistant Secretary General of WMO, and Mr. Tillmann Mohr, Chair of International Strategic Consultative Committee on Chinese Meteorological Satellite Programmes attended the opening ceremony and APSCO was mentioned multiple times during their speech.
During the plenary session Mr. Xu Yansong, Director-General of Program Operation and Data Service Department had the presentation on “Benefit of APSCO DSSP to Meteorology in Asia and Pacific”. He introduced basic information about APSCO and tripartite agreement on FY Satellites Applications between APSCO, CMA and CNSA. To implement this agreement, APSCO initiated the “FY-2 Geostationary Satellite Data Receiving and Utilization System Project” which will be executed in the next 2 years. The presentation drew a lot of interests and attention from the attendees.
During this event, representatives and experts carried out in-depth discussions over topics like global data sharing, application and services of FY satellites, international application demands, global weather watch and forecasting application, as well as global ecological environmental monitoring and application.
Up to date, China has successfully launched 17 FY meteorological satellites, with 7 in stable orbital operation. CMACast has provided over 100 kinds of satellite data and products for global users, including APSCO Member States.
