The Preliminary Design Review (PDR) Meeting of the “APSCO Earthquake Research Project Phase II: Integrating Satellite and Ground Observations for Earthquake Signatures and Precursors” was organized during November 19-21, 2019 in Pattaya, Thailand. The Project Management Board (PMB) members, delegates from all Member States, the meeting co-organizer, the National Digital Economy and Society Commission (ONDE), Thailand, and the Project Management Team from APSCO Secretariat attended the meeting.
Dr. Manop Aorpimai, Director-General of Strategic Planning and Program Management Department of APSCO, as the Chairman of the meeting, delivered the welcome speech on behalf of the Secretariat. He appreciated the great success of this project since its first phase and the smooth implementing of the second phase. He expressed special thanks to the Institute Crustal Dynamics, China Earthquake Administration (ICD, CEA) for their excellent cooperation and contribution to the project, and expressed his sincere gratitude to ONDE of Thailand for co-organizing the event and providing support and warm hospitality for the meeting. Prof. Shuxin Yang, Deputy Director of ICD, CEA, on behalf of the project leader, emphasized the significance of the inter-governmental cooperation under this project to the institute. He assured that ICD, CEA will provide, at its fullest attempt, support for the success of the project.
During the meeting, all deliverables submitted by ICD, CEA were intensively reviewed by all experts. It was agreed by the PMB that the project has completed its PDR milestone and is ready to transit into the next stage. Regarding the hosting-site preparation for the geo-magnetometer, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Thailand and Turkey showed their willingness to work together with engineers from the project leader to conduct on-site survey and complete the site-hosting agreement signing with APSCO within the first half of 2020.
All delegates appreciated the excellent support from ONDE, and significant contributions from ICD, CEA and APSCO Secretariat for this successful meeting. All countries ensured their strong support on this project, as well as other cooperative activities of APSCO.
