The Intermediate Progress Review (IPR) Meeting of “Forest Carbon Stock Assessment using Geospatial Technologies” Project was successfully organized through a teleconference during 18th-19th January, 2021. Experts, as well as review team members from Bangladesh, China, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, Peru, Thailand, Turkey and the Review Board from APSCO Secretariat, participated in this meeting.
In the Opening Session, Dr. Ferhat Fikri Ozeren, Deputy Director-General of Strategic Planning and Program Management Department of APSCO and Chairman of this meeting welcomed all delegates on behalf of APSCO Secretariat. He emphasized the importance of the project in the field of forest carbon stock, and he appreciated the Project Leader SUPARCO for their contribution to the project, especially well prepared for the project progress reports and deliverables; also he wished a successful achievement in this meeting.
Dr. Atif Shahzad, Project Manager from SUPARCO, introduced the Project Implementation and Management Plan (PMP) and the Project Progress Reports. He also presented the Deliverables D2: “Database of literature cited, tree allometric equations and carbon fractions” and D3: “Field data in tabular format” during the meeting. All Member States experts had an intensive discussion and shared their experience and comments on the deliverable documents.
In conclusion, it is recognized by the Review Board and review team members from all Member States that the IPR deliverables have been accepted. The objectives of the IPR Meeting have been achieved, and the Intermediate Progress Review on the project is considered to be completed with great success. The 2nd Training of the project is planning to be organized in the coming month to improve all Member States' capacity building.
