Ms. Aisha Jagirani, Director General of the Department of External Relations and Legal Affairs, discussed the regulatory and policy dimensions of Long-term Sustainability of Outer Space during UNOOSA’s event on Promoting Space Sustainability: Awareness raising, and capacity building related to the implementation of the LTS Guidelines Agenda: Virtual Event 3/3 – Regulators, Policymakers held on 15 March 2020. Ms. Jagirani also discussed the role and initiatives of APSCO in promoting space sustainability and developing capabilities of its Member States in the area.
The event was organized by UNOOSA with the support of UK Space Agency. Opening statements were made by Ms. Simonetta di Pippo Director United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and Mr. Colin Macleod Head UK Space Regulation. Other presenter included speakers from National Space Policy Secretariat, Cabinet Office of Japan, Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA), Italian Space Agency (ASI), Philippine Space Agency, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment of New Zealand, U.S. Department of Commerce, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications for Estonia, German Aerospace Center (DLR), South African Council for Space Affairs (SACSA) and Alden (UK).
The event was attended by more than 140 participants. The event was organized as part of the UNOOSA’s Promoting Space Sustainability Project to raise global awareness of the importance of space sustainability and foster related capacity-building services for emerging spacefaring nations.
