APSCO delegation attended the 60th session of Legal Subcommittee (LSC 2021) of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) during 31 May – 11 June online.
APSCO delegation actively participated in the meeting and made two statements to elaborately report the activities of APSCO in space law and policy area. On 3rd June, Ms. Aisha Jagirani, Director-General of External Relations and Legal Affairs Department, made a statement under the Agenda Item-4, Information on the Activities of International Intergovernmental and non-Governmental Organizations Relating to Space Law. She specially deliberated that a comprehensive vision for Space Law and Policy for the new decade has been developed referred as the “Strategy for Space Law and Policy of APSCO (2021-2030)”. This strategy focuses on enhancing the role of APSCO in the field of space law and policy to provide more practical benefits to Member States and strengthening the contribution of APSCO in the international community in the fields of space law and policy.
Besides, on 4th June, Mr. Aziz Koru, Deputy Director-General of the aforementioned department, gave a statement under Agenda Item-8, Capacity-Building in Space Law. He shared the practice of a series of Space Law Forums as the knowledge exchanging platform of APSCO which provide equal opportunities for both developing and developed country experts to discuss and promote the common understanding of space law and policy at regional and inter-regional level. Also, space law training held by APSCO and degree education program on the major of space law with the support of well-known lecturers and universities endeavor for capacity building in the related area among Member States.
APSCO and its Members are strongly committed and strongly support international space cooperation especially through UNOOSA mechanism, and all nations are welcomed to cooperate with us for exploring and exploiting peaceful uses of outer space to bring and share benefits to enhancing prosperity together.
